Conceptual Modeling of XML data schemataThe goal of conceptual modeling is to enable real world objects being handled on an abstract level, thus making it easier to manage them in application scenarios. With a look at database modeling, we focus on refining the approach with which document type definitions (DTDs) - generally considered as data schemata - may be modeled on conceptual level. Relying on the flexibility of the Unified Modeling Language (UML), we have already shaped a methodology of modeling DTDs and rules for transforming models into DTDs. We are about to continue this work in applying our approach to XML schema. Hereby, we want to focus more strongly on the modeling of meta data based on the resource description framework (RDF). RDF relies on XML structures for managing meta data of documents in a standardised way.
